I mean Russia.Positioning their forward operating base in Latakia which is home to most of the senior Alawite regime, it comes as a surprise that Russia has decided to increase their military intervention after 4 years of war. After considerable success on part of the rebel alliances and a boost of morale in their ranks, the Russian intervention will only lengthen the war and increase in destabilizing the region. With ISIS not looking to be rid of anytime soon, rebels advancing and increased foreign intervention (France with airstrikes being the latest), the future for the region can only be glim.
